FAQs

Q?

What do I need to bring with me?

A.

If you have a jiu jitsu uniform (gi), please bring that with you.  If not, we have several loaner gi's you can borrow. You should also bring a good attitude, an open mind, and be ready to have a great time with others on a path to a happier, healthier life.

Q?

Why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

A.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the most effective martial art in the world, and has been proven so in many ways. The most notable time was when the Gracie family came to the USA and challenged anyone studying any martial arts style to a match with a cash prize called the "Gracie Challenge", with no one claiming victory over the family. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was also originally a platform to show the effectiveness of BJJ, with the smallest member of the Gracie family Royce Gracie claiming victory over fighters much larger and stronger than him, and winning the first two events.

Q?

Do I have to be in good shape to start?

A.

In Jiu Jitsu one of our motto's is  "Jiu Jitsu for EVERYONE". Learning the techniques, participating in the warm-ups, and all of the drills we practice will get you in shape without you even realizing it! That is one of the best thing about BJJ, the main side effect is a healthier happier you!

Q?

Is it dangerous?

A.

As with all sports, there is some risk of injury, however we have a lot of control over injuries. All children are watched carefully while grappling to ensure the safest possible conditions. We will even stop the match for them if we believe an injury may occur. "Tapping out" is the main way we focus on preventing injury, you can tap whenever you feel necessary and your opponent will immediately stop the match. "Tapping out" is not a sign of weakness here at Top Game, it is a learning tool. If you tap, you evaluate what happened with your partner, learn from it, and grow as a martial artist.
